The Crimson Hawks' offense was firing on all cylinders as they opened up conference play with a 19-9 victory over Shippensburg Tuesday at George P. Miller Stadium.

"It was very crucial to get that first win, we're in a very tough conference," said Head Coach Mindy Richmond.

A win against Shippensburg is something that hasn't come easy for the Hawks.

"We've taken a couple tough losses to that team in the past couple years and it was really good for us to come out hard against them and to beat them by 10 goals is huge for us," Richmond said.

Coming out hard was exactly what the Hawks did. The first goal came within a matter of minutes, and from then on it seemed like nothing could stand in the way of a Crimson Hawk victory. That was until late in the first half, when the Lady Raiders went on a small scoring run of their own to narrow the gap going into halftime.

The second half opened up much the same way the first half ended, with Shippensburg getting closer to a potential comeback, but the Hawks' ability to stay strong and hold it together prevented what would have been a disappointing loss.

"It was really important for us to win the draw controls, and everyone did a good job of controlling the ball and double teaming the midfield," Richmond said.

Not only was it a defensive effort, but the offense was able to put the game away by extending the Hawks' leads at various points in the game.

"The girls did a nice job of being patient on offense and taking care of the ball and putting the ball in the back of the net," Richmond said.

Leading the way for the Hawks was Becca Vogt, who had a big scoring day with four goals as well as four assists. Alexa Lodovici and Stephanie Bianco also tallied four goals of their own. Rounding out the scoring for the Hawks was Corinne Miller with three goals, Beth Glasshagel with two and Jess Beck and Colleen

Berlin had one goal apiece. With the win the Hawks improve to 2-1 overall with a 1-0 conference record.

The Hawks travel Millersville 4 p.m. Saturday as they take on PSAC opponent Millersville Marauders.
