Syracuse Head Coach Jim Boeheim took his team to the No. 1 ranking this week.

It is March, which means that conference tournaments will start up this week and go until Selection Sunday on March 14. Between those 14 days we will see 31 tournaments.

There are 32 conferences, but the Ivy League doesn’t have a tournament.

The automatic bid goes to the winner of the conference for the regular season.

Below are the big tournaments, my winners and a couple of dark horses. Also, you will see how many from each conference I think will go to the tournament.

Big 12

Winner: Kansas

Dark Horses: Kansas State, Baylor, Texas A&M, Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma State

The conference will receive five bids unless Oklahoma State or Missouri wins the conference tournaments.

I think Kansas, Kansas State, Texas A&M, Baylor and Texas are locks to make it.

Pac 10

Winner: California

Dark Horses: Arizona State and Washington

The conference is having a down year and could receive only one bid to the tournament. If California doesn’t win the tournament then it might  have a case at an at-large bid.

Big East

Winner: Syracuse

Dark Horses : Villanova, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Marquette and Georgetown

I think the Big East receives the most bids with seven,  with Connecticut joining the six above.

The Big East proved again that it is the best conference in basketball.

Atlantic Coast Conference

Winner: Duke

Dark Horses: Maryland, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Florida State, Wake Forest and Georgia Tech

It looks like the conference could receive six bids. There aren’t a lot of great teams in this conference, but there are a lot of good teams. I think either Wake Forest or Georgia Tech will be the team that is left out.

Southeastern Conference

Winner: Kentucky

Dark Horses: Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi State and Mississippi

I think the conference will receive five bids, with Mississippi being the team left out if it doesn’t win the conference tournament.

Big Ten

Winner: Ohio State

Dark Horses: Purdue, Michigan State and Wisconsin

The conference will receive four bids.

Illinois is another team that could receive a bid, but I think it needs to win the conference tournament.
