Talented and physical beyond his years, Robert “Bo” Ruef is a natural ice hockey player. Since the age of six months, he was exposed to ice hockey when he watched the Erie Panthers, a local club team (now the Erie Otters), thanks to season tickets from his grandparents.
Their hearts pound through their chests, sweat dripping on to the ice as they all wait for the puck to drop. It has been a long game, three periods of fight with no give, but what else do you expect from IUP’s Ice Hawks? With wins under their belts after their first two games, this hockey season should prove to be an interesting one.
Looking to secure the starting goaltending job for IUP’s club hockey team, Dante Koeppen, 20, balances a very busy schedule between school and athletics. Koeppen, a junior sport administration major and a native of Chicago, Ill., makes the trek every year to IUP, pre- paring for another promising school year and season.
Despite having already clinched a spot in the College Hockey Mid-America playoffs, the Crimson Hawks continued their struggles Friday night in a 3-1 loss against Duquesne.
IUP enters this week’s pivotal matchup against Clarion with the news that they’re seventh in the first regional rankings of the year. Seventh isn’t the place that any team wants to be this time of the year.
