The IUP golf team surged on day two of the Bud Elwell Classic, but finished four shots behind the leader for the tournament.
The Crimson Hawks registered a round one score of 308 and finished the second day with a top score of 303 giving them a tournament total of 611, but that wasn't enough to overcome PSAC foe West Chester who finished with a total score of 607.
Sean Sweithelm led the way for the Hawks finishing with a score of 150, six over par. Zack Kempa finished right behind him with a seven over 151.
On an individual level, Sweithelm finished in sixth place, three shots behind Patrick Fritz of Allegheny and Ross Pringle of Clarion, both of whom were the tournament champions.
Kempa, who won his previous two tournaments, came in seventh. Kempa shot a 74 on day two, giving him the best score of the day.
Teammates Jack Owen and Jared Palubinski finished with scores of 157 and 160 respectfully.
The Crimson Hawks will be on the course again this weekend when they participate in the Vulcan Invitational at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon.
