People TV writer to speak about adventures in Hollywood

 A senior staff writer for People magazine and IUP alumna will be sharing her experiences in TV/entertainment/magazine journalism with IUP journalism majors at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Beard Auditorium in Stouffer Hall. 

The presentation is open to all students, faculty and staff.

Monica Rizzo, a 1987 journalism graduate originally from Pitcairn, covers the television beat for the Los Angeles-based magazine. 

She covers “American Idol,” “Dancing With the Stars,” “Lost” and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.” Other shows included “Sex and the City,” “Ally McBeal,” “Spin City” and “The Practice.” 

Rizzo also covers the Disney Channel.

Her previous journalism experience includes stints with The Indiana Gazette, Sports Illustrated and Us Weekly. 

Rizzo has written 10 teen-entertainment books and is working on her first mass-market hardcover biography with Cheryl Burke from “Dancing With the Stars.”

Rizzo lives in the Los Angeles suburb of Sherman Oaks with her husband and 7-year-old son.
