The rain clouds stayed away just long enough Wednesday for political and social expressions to appear on the Oak Grove's sidewalks. It was the annual Chalk on the Walk, and most of the chalkings are still visible, despite the rain that washed some away. By noon, many artists had already been working on their pieces for hours.
Thanks to a $100,000 Campus Heritage grant from the Getty Foundation, IUP's historic buildings and landscapes are being studied to ensure the preservation of the campus' rich history. Since its creation in 1984, the Getty Foundation has worked toward fulfilling a philanthropic mission of "supporting individuals and institutions committed to advancing the understanding and preservation of the visual arts locally and throughout the world," according to its Web site, getty.
The semester is coming to a close. Everyone is taking their final exams and getting ready to hit the beach or the bed this summer to take their minds off of IUP. Enjoy it, because August will be here before you know it and we'll again begin counting the days until the next summer vacation.
It's no secret that the current college-aged generation has been branded with a powerful stigma that labels them as a group of lazy, apathetic individuals. Those who tout this image, assert that today's young adults would rather call in a vote for American Idol than travel to the voting booths for America's next president.
After a one-year absence, the Crimson Hawks are looking to punch their ticket into the PSAC playoffs this weekend. Following an abysmal start, which saw them drop eight-straight at one point, IUP has righted the ship. They have gone 11-5 inside the PSAC West and 11-7 overall since the long losing streak to put themselves in position to clinch a playoff spot this weekend.
According to an article in the April 18 issue of The Indiana Gazette, Indiana borough is trying to get a list of student names from the university, and is willing to legally halt construction in order to ensure that they do. An ordinance enacted in 2002 requires that retail property owners in Indiana provide the names of tenants living in their buildings to the borough.
