Simply Kupcakes opens with a surprising start.

It is hard to fathom that, merely a few months back, the building at 80 N. Avenue, in Indiana, pa, was something completely different than it is today.

Once a fitness center, the facility now houses the newly opened shop, Simply Kupcakes.

Their opening day went so well, that the supply of cupcakes disappeared, around 12:30 p.m.

Kupkake Kreators Debra Davis and Diane Stipcak, employed by IUP, had a vision back in the spring, and they decided to take their friendship and a passion to the business playing field.

“We’ve wanted to bake cupcakes for years,” Davis said.  We share a love of baking, and  we have been friends for more than 30 years.”

Davis and Stipcak share a love of more than just cupcakes; they think of each other as family.

“I have never had a sister,” Stipcak said.  “Debra is like my sister.”

Inspired by the television series Cupcake Wars, Davis and Stipcak set out with their dream, as women and mothers.

“All mothers can multitask; we are carrying on into something else.  This is our baby now,” Davis said.

Once the legalities were settled, Davis and Stipcak began transforming a former fitness center into a pastry paradise; Stipcak’s husband aided them with jobs around the shop, such as laying down the new store floor, working with the electrics and other shop tasks.

The shop featured a spread of vanilla and chocolate cupcakes yesterday, along with many new treats and seven cupcakes created by their children; however, today they will place a hold on the vanilla and chocolate, and break the traditional cupcake trends by introducing some new unique cupcakes.

Davis and Spicak have worked to create around 140 different types of cupcakes which will be offered at various points throughout the year

Some of the different new options customers will have to experience include a chocolate chili cupcake, French toast cupcake, with bacon, key lime pie cupcake and a sausage cupcake.

The two Kupkake Kreators will also be showcasing a special cupcake for this year’s Homecoming event, called the Crimson Hawk.

“We make it, we try it, and if we do not like it, the trash can will,” Stipcak said.

No matter what they concoct, there is always something baked into the middle of the cupcake and a cool topping for the finishing touch.

To ensure that their cupcakes would be a hit within the IUP and Indiana communities, Stipcak and Davis handed out free cupcakes to individuals at this year’s Hawk Rock, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and in Maryland and Boston.
