The suites on Maple Street should be completed by the fall '08 semester

The second phase of the "Residential Revival" project is progressing on schedule, according to Tom Borellis, director of the Student Housing Development Foundation for IUP.

The Suites on Maple East and West, and the Northern Suites are expected to be completed and ready for students to move in for the 2008 fall semester.

Over the summer, Esch, Wallace, Campus Towers and Pecan Health Center are currently scheduled to be demolished.

"Pecan Health Center is going to be relocated to the new health center, Building C, on the corner of Maple and Pratt across from Folger Hall," Borellis said.

According to Borellis, the new suite buildings will be owned by the foundation and have a ground lease from the university. They will be maintained and operated by the university.

Allen and O'Hara, the housing redevelopment firm hired by the foundation for IUP, is leading the project. Massaro Corporation, a contracting firm out of Pittsburgh, was hired as general conractor.

According to Borellis, the redevelopment is currently planning to move to Phase III of the project.

"In March, the developers will meet to plan Phase III and see if everything is on schedule or if something is holding it up," Borellis said.

"Right now it looks like everything is on schedule," he said. A real-time view of the construction as it happens can be viewed from the "ConstructionCam" on IUP's website, iup.edu/news/construction.

The video feed shows a bird's-eye view from Maple street, and another fom the corner of Grant Street and Pratt Drive.

The project is expected to completely replace all of the residence halls by 2010.
