While students, friends, family and alumni are flocking to Indiana for the notorious Homecoming weekend, the police forces on campus and in surrounding areas are preparing for a hectic event.
"Unfortunately, the theme of the celebration is alcohol," said Indiana Police Chief William Sutton. "We are just helping to make sure everyone is safe."
While the university police focus on patrolling the campus, Indiana Borough Police will focus on everything off campus.
"It is a numbers game," explained Sutton. "A large influx of people will be in the borough."
The borough will bring in the horses, six mounting units from the state police, as well as help from a few local agencies in Indiana. Campus police will bring in extra officers on duty as well.
"We pretty much know what we are dealing with. We are just patrolling the campus and preparing for the football game and parade," said Bill Montgomery, Director of Public Safety.
Students seem to have mixed feelings on the extra enforcements. While they are ensuring our safety, some feel they are out to ruin the fun.
"I don't think having extra police is a bad thing. I think the cops on horses are a little excessive. But I think it is good that they do it," said Joe Priolo (senior, criminology).
