IUP alum, Adam Lint, to run in International Association of Ultra Runners 100-kilometer World Cup

Running close to 20 miles every day this year, Adam Lint, 25, from Patton, Pa. has been going the distance in regards to academic achievements, running and traveling.

Lint's biggest challenge has been presented to him recently, as he has just been selected to run for the National 100-kilometer Ultra Marathon team. He is the youngest member chosen to run for the team.

"It is an amazing feeling," Lint said in a Sept. 3 article in the Indiana Gazette.

Lint will travel to Italy with 11 other men and women for the International Association of Ultra Runners 100-kilometer World Cup.

The race, which is equal to about 62.1 miles, will begin on Nov. 8 in Tuscania, Italy. The race will then run and end in Tarquinia, Italy.

"I won't be satisfied unless I know I ran my absolute best," Lint told the Gazette.

The race Lint will participate in is equal to running over 900 football fields (including the end zone).

Last year, the race was held in Winschoten, the Netherlands. The USA mens' team placed third while the womens' team placed fourth.

Lint has certainly been on the move, winning three medals in the United States of America Track and Field competitions for long-distance running since March of 2008.

On March 2, in Huntington, NY, Lint received the bronze medal at the USATF National 50-kilometer Road Championships. His time was three hours and 14 minutes.

On April 12, in Madison, WI, Lint won the bronze medal at the USATF National 100-kilometer Road Championships. Lint finished in seven hours and 19 minutes.

Finally, on July 26, in Crystal Mountain, WA, Lint earned the silver medal at the USATF 50-mile Trail Championships. Lint's time was six hours and 59 minutes.

Being a graduate of Cambria Heights High School, Lint received his master's degree in geography from IUP during the spring semester of 2008. He has also earned his bachelor's degree in criminology from IUP.

Lint has recently moved to Seattle, WA, and he plans on looking for a job that has something to do with athletics.

"I love it here," Lint said. "It is a quiet area. [Seattle] is two miles away from here and you can't even tell."

Running has been a huge part of Lint's life.

"It takes a lot of hard miles," Lint said. "Running has definitely helped me in a positive way. It helps clear the mind. Don't give up."

Lint's favorite run took place overseas along the canal systems of Great Britain.

"They take you through the English countryside, which is absolutely amazing," Lint said. "It is like running in a different time."
